Castors versus feet, which is right for your toolbox?Updated 22 minutes ago

Most Maxim toolboxes ship without the castors or feet attached, the 42" range is the exception, arriving with wheels already fitted. For everything else, castors are included with roll cabinets and some side cabinets and lockers, ready for you to attach yourself. Adjustable feet and base guards are also available as an alternative to wheels, so it's worth knowing which setup suits your workshop before you fit anything.

Castors are for mobility: If you move your toolbox around the workshop regularly, whether that's between bays, or outside to a job, or just shifting it to sweep underneath, castors are ideal. The trade-off is a small amount of give: a cabinet on wheels will always have a touch more movement than one on feet, especially under load.

Adjustable feet are for stability: If your toolbox lives in one spot and stability matters more than mobility (a permanent workstation, a heavy top-mounted vice, or an uneven concrete floor), swapping to adjustable feet takes the roll out of the equation. The adjustment range runs from 160mm to 190mm, which keeps the cabinet sitting close to its original rolling height, so you're not left with an awkward step up or down once the wheels come off.

Base guard: This is a thin steel layer which you can attach to the feet that protect the base of the cabinet from knocks and stop things rolling under the cabinet, especially useful in busy workshops where trolleys, forklifts, or foot traffic can clip the lower edge. They pair with the adjustable feet option, giving you protection and a stable footing in one accessory.

If you have changed your mind after fitting one option, or need to replace a worn part? Castors, adjustable feet, and base guards are all available separately in our spare parts category, so switching between mobility and stability, or replacing a damaged part, is just a matter of ordering online.
