The spindle guide or mandrel has broken on my nutsert gun – what could be the cause?Updated a month ago

There are several possible reasons why the mandrel or spindle guide may break during use. One of the most common causes is incorrect pull length or air pressure settings. To prevent breakage:

  • Adjust the pull length correctly by turning the knurled screw adjuster that the mandrel passes through. Turning it inward reduces the pull length (ideal for smaller rivnuts), while turning it outward increases the pull length (suitable for larger rivnuts).

  • Ensure air pressure is properly set while the tool is connected to an air supply and the trigger is pressed. Recommended air pressures for different mandrel sizes are listed in the instruction manual.

  • Always keep the tool square to the work surface during operation to avoid misalignment and unnecessary stress on the components.

  • Use only one flare attempt per nutsert. Do not attempt to re-flare a previously installed nutsert, as this can lead to mandrel or spindle damage.

If you need replacements, we offer mandrel sets that include the spindle guide. Please reach out if you need help identifying the correct size or part.
