What does the drawer slide rating actually mean? Toolbox drawer weight limits explainedUpdated 2 hours ago
Every toolbox drawer has a slide rating, usually shown as a weight in kilograms, but it's often misunderstood. Here's what that number actually covers and how to load your drawers correctly.
The drawer slide rating is the maximum load per set of slides, based on the weight being spread evenly along the length of the drawer. It's not a point load rating. If you load a drawer evenly, front to back and side to side, the slides will run smoothly right up to the stated limit.
Where people run into trouble is concentrating a heavy item right at the front of the drawer. Even if the total weight is within the rating, that uneven load puts more strain on the slide mechanism at the point it's least supported, and the drawer can start to run roughly or bind. Spread the weight out and the same slides will handle the same total load without issue.
So when you're working out what your toolbox can carry, think about how the weight sits in the drawer, not just the total on the scale.
